"Do not build picturesquely. Leave being picturesque to walls, mountains, and the sun."
(Adolf Loos - 1913)
In the winter of 1928/29, food manufacturer Paul Khuner commissioned the architect Adolf Loos to design a country home on Kreuzberg mountain. The house, a late work of the now world-renowned Loos, was completed in 1930, and later on sold by the Khuners to the Schicht family. After surviving the Second World War and the post-war period, it was acquired by Ilse Wurdack, the grandmother of the Steiner siblings, from the construction firm Teerag in 1959. She restored the Khuner house and converted it into a hotel and restaurant. Since 1963, Looshaus has been listed and protected as a historical building.
